transfer jumps out of gear
My 81' f150 won't stay in 4hi or 4l, it goes into gear ok, and starts out ok,but as soon as you let off the throttle it jumps out of gear.It does not do this in 2h. the transfer is an np208.Any ideas?

The only thig different is 4 new tires.Also I should mention,it just dosen't seem to "lock"in place. As far as the linkage being loose everything that should be tight is but there "seems" to be a lot of slop in the linkage set up. being a new fotrd owner I assume this to be typical. I am wondering if there is a detent in the shift shaft, and could it be the problem.I have yet to find an exploded view of this transfer case. Thanks for the help.

I remember going to a itech competition, and there was a pos truck there. Looks like the t-case was bad and would pop out, so the guy put a ratchett strap to his light bar to hold it in 4x4, and the sad part is, he got a 1st. Heres a link to a diagram:
