I have a bit of a "clunk" noise if I am cruising down the street and step on the gas, then let off. I have replaced 2 of the U-joints in my rear shaft and the last joint (at the axle) has no play. If the truck is in neutral I can turn the drive shave back and forth about 1/4 or so. When I turn it back and forth I can hear the gears "clunk" in the rear pumpkin.
I know the gears in the axle are not original so I'm wondering if there is a problem with the amount of backlash or perhaps the pinion depth. Or is this amount of play normal? It doesn't sound right when I drive down the street and I wonder if I'm eating up my gears.
