47 1 ton 122"

I have a 1ton 122" wheelbase original flatbed, did these come with regular pick-up beds instead of flatbeds?

Yes...they did have a long bed on those 1 tons...but most I have seen are stake beds. The bed is different than that of the 1/2 ton models.

They were rarer than the other platforms but they had an 8 foot bed that was a little wider than the 1/2 tons beds, and also had uncovered wood planks, unlike the 1/2 tons.

Would the 1 ton box be the same as the 1 1/2 ton. Are they interchangeable? I would like to put a box on mine also. Thanks, Greg

The 1 1/2 ton never had a pickup bed as an option, only stake beds, platforms (no stakes) and cab and chassis combos. The 1 1/2 ton has a different wheelbase than the 122" 1 ton, they had either 134 or 158" WB. I suppose with a little fab work a bed could be modified to work with anywheelbase truck.

I won't be able to see my truck until sunday, but I believe it is a 134" wb model. According to earlier posts the 1 ton box is longer because of the differance in wb and a little wider. Does anyone know how much wider? And how much wider is the chassis on the 1 1/2 ton than the 1/2 ton. Last question, is the 1 ton box any deeper than the 1/2 ton. Because the 1 1/2 ton didn't have a box as an option I would like to pattern mine after the 1 ton but will probably start with a 1/2 ton box. Thanks for all your help. Greg

The box does have different height and width dimensions. I've included them here, first figure is for a 1/2 ton box, 2nd is for the 1 ton box.

Height of box at front of bed:
20.22" 22.2"

Height at the tailgate (tailgate lower than top of bed rail)
17.5" 19.7"

Inside side to side top of bed:
49" 54.0"

Inside side to side at bed floor level:
49" 48.5"

Reason the 1/2 ton has more room side to side at bed floor level is because the 1 ton bed has small wheel tubs because the bed is wider and to allow more room for the tires.

The frame rails are the same distance apart on all Ford trucks, regardless of wheelbase.

These dimensions came from a factory '46 brochure.

Thanks Gary you are very helpful. The fact that the box is taller makes this project alot more diffucult. Greg
