Public Service Announcement

Reading a few threads this last two weeks ,regarding Truck value's after an collision.

Hear this :

Get your Truck Appraised by a person that specializes in Old Vehicles

You can then have it insured for its real value or Replacement Value instead of the Book value that the insurance company comes up with.

The premium may cost more but, are you willing to lose the Truck instead?

Don't wait,

Get it done soon or suffer the consequences from being Hit by someone or Hitting someone and lose your baby.

I'm with you Dennis! When you have an independent source say that your truck is worth $X.00 before an accident or loss makes a ton of sense to me. Insurance companies are notorious for lowballing their payouts so don't give them a chance.

I have to get the old boy running and on the road first.Point well taken though.I have no idea what it would be worth right now. It's priceless to me,but I'm sure the insurance company wouldn't think so.

When I was driving my 55 Ford Panel, before it got stolen and trashed, I couldn't get insurance. They said it wasn't in the books anymore. That was a long time ago, so I imagine I could find a company now that would be happy to take me to the cleaners for monthly premiums. But I don't have her anymore. After she was ripped off and trashed, I just didn't have the money to get her back to the way she was...close to being finished in the cherrying out dept. They really ran it hard and put it away wet, judging by how she looked on her belly out in the woods. At least they didn't burn it.

Hi, I Bought a 1965 f-100 Short Bed it was a show truck - touring world of wheels . I bought it at a very good price. Owner wanted out of it he was bulding a new car. I insured it through state farm antiuqe auto for 20,000. I bought it for alot less.but I know it would cost alot to build my other 1965 F-100 SB . Question were would you find an appraser like you are telling us about .

For classic car/truck insurance, check out Haggerty, it cost's $XX.XX per thousand of coverage. there are limitations though, like only so many miles per year, garage kept, never driven to work etc.

as far as regular insurance, I think its called "GAP" coverage...meaning the insurance company will have to pay extra in case its a total loss, instead of just the going rate.

Say I bought my truck at $32k with $2k down
a month later its stolen and trashed
insurance offers $27k, but the payoff is $30k+
nothing you can do unless you have Gap coverage.

I have 'Stated Value' insurance on my old truck. (State Farm)
To qualify the vehical has to be 25yrs. or older.
Can't use it for any thing but occasional pleasure drive and for Shows. I don't show the truck, heck I don't drive the truck more than 200 miles a year anymore for a number of years now. (no time) It just sits in the garage, looking like new, however, the insurance is only $75.00 a year, full coverage.
