Clutch and Clutch Pedal Problems
I kind of asked this a while back and got kind of an answer. I am building up my 88 f150 right now with the 88 351W but I want to mate it with a np205. I have the small block bellhousing that goes on it and everything so it will bolt right up. My problem is which flywheel should be used on the engine? I dont think the 72 truck that the tranny came out of came with a 351W. When you go into autozomes site it doesnt list it as available with a 351w only a 302. So can I get the 351W's 28oz flywheel and then put a clutch on from a 302? Are they the same? Im not sure what to do since the tranny was never connected to a 351W stock....or maybe it was and I dont know it. Did they keep those np205's into the 80's and then start putting the 351w's on them? There has to be some time or another when the np205 was mated to a 351W. Also since the clutch is mechanical I cant use the hydraulic clutch from a 88. My plan is to use the clutch pedal assembly from a 78. Do you guys think it will work? From what I can see its not going to fit right so I might have to get a 88 hydraulic clutch assembly and weld in some type of mechanical linkage. Do you guys think I am crazy for going through all this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
