Where is the ballast resistor in the Duraspark II ignition?
Where is the ballet resistor located in the Ford Duraspark II ignition system? I need to know because I am converting a EFI engine to a carb set-up. I have the Duraspark II parts: coil, distributor, module, and wire harness. Do I need the ballast resistor? Any tips?
Clayton, I suggest wiring in a resistor to your existing switch harness, rather than splicing in a resistor wire as in Dennis' diagram. Just mount it on the firewall and connect it to the coil circuit.
You can get a 1.1 - 1.3 ohm resistor at any parts store.
I think the resistor is supposed to be 1.3-1.4 ohms for the DS-II ignition system.
I think those Chrysler ceramic block resistors were around 0.6 ohms so two wired in series would work. If you get crimp type spade terminals to make your connections make sure you get the high temperature type available from appliance parts stores for heater wires. The std crimp connectors will heat up, loosen, and corrode.
