problem with power mirrors on 99 F150

i'm haveing problems with the mirrors on our 99 f-150. what the problem is.. i when i'm controlling the mirrors.. its like the joystick is all messed up.. down works fine.. in works fine.. but when i try and make them go out they just go down.. and when i try to move them up.. they just go in .. ??? its pretty much the same for both sides... its like they wanna go only down and in.. and they keep going til they start popping.. at first they did work fine.. could they have went out of placement, by force.. i think it might've happend when being washed. maybe if i could find where the axis's cross.. and i could center them.. (know what im saying???) if it works that way.. ????
