Ok, fellas I'm new here and I need your help! I have a 98' F-150 4x4 off-road with the 5.4L V8 engine, 143,000 miles. I recently just returned from a 900 mile trip to Texas, on which I noticed I was getting worse gas mileage than usual, even than in the summer with the ac going, (13.1 mpg average over trip, 70ish mph all hwy) ANYWAY, about a month ago, the engine blew a spark plug from the #8 cyl. and I had to have a helicoil placed in to replace it. That is when i noticed the gas mileage problem, directly after that, normally i would get 14-15 on the hwy, but now it barely gets 13. anyways, I got home last night from the trip at around 4am, I went to start my truck today, nothing, zero, nadda. It will turn over all day, but never even putter. I tried unplugging the battery for an hour or so, thinking it might be a computer problem, but that helped nothing.
The reason I mentioned the gas mileage and the earlier helicoil repair, is I think they and the problem I'm having now, might be related.
Any Help would be great. Thx guys.
P.S. But, like the Fords I've come to love, it broke down, but at least i was in my driveway when it happened.
Well, before going to bed tonight I decided to give it one last try. And it cranked right up. What would cause it to not start for crap 4 hours ago, but fire right up now?
Well, the check engine light was on for months, but when i unplugged the battery, it reset of course. And it wasnt flashing while cranking, also I could hear the intank pump engage when i turned the key on.
Also, i have noticed a kind of buzzing coming from under the hood, i cant exactly place it, and it doesnt do it all the time. Just at idle, and when first accelerating from a stop, even then i just buzzes for a second then stops, then might again in a few seconds, no uniformity to it at all.
