Question Mid fiftys truck on s10 frame?

WEll I just saw my first one, guy took a late model body s10 and put his 54 on it. Pulled out the 4.3 litter (not litre) Chebby and replaced it with a 350. Looked pretty neat and runs really great. Tubbed the rear and running some kick *** big tires and wheels. He says he did it himself but I've seen his work. He's luck to be able to put the key in and start ' er up. Believe he had professional help. Anybody else try this?

Are the frames fairly similar in width and length? Course it'd be better on a ranger frame.

Comments?

that guy should have just bought a chevy, would have saved him the trouble of swapping and fabricating.

A guy on the HAMB posted a pic of an S-10 framed F-1 the other day. There are a few guys on there with good information about the swap. Here's the thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthre...=&sb=5&o=&vc=1
Ranger frames have that wildly unpopular twin I beam... seems to be its big enthusiasm squasher.
When all is said and done, the rodder of the Ford persuasion is in danger of slipping into that all over GM mode. Sure, get your suspension and brake upgrades in one fell swoop. Since the motor mounts are right there, why not slip that SBC right in? For that matter, why not the BBC? Now we have a dilemma, boys. Are we driving a brand x truck with a Ford body? If so... we may have a bigger problem. We can't talk about it. Its a rule. At least the drivetrain portion is taboo. I, for one, don't see the sense in rodding anything with the idea that I must maintain some brand loyalty to the project. On the other hand, I don't want to talk about Chevys on this board. Now it is time for the voice of wisdom to drop down from the frigid north and 'splain all of this... Where is George when we need him!!! Loyaly. himmelberg

Hey now, I don't think the twin I-beam is a squasher, at least not to everyone. I drive a ranger and love it, its far tougher than the few S-10's I have driven. Also, I'm in the process of putting a late 70's F-150 frame under my 52 so I can use the Twin I-beam there as well. I guess it all comes down to a matter of what you want. I happen to love the I-beams, 4 out of my 5 of the drivers I've owned had them.

Himmel is right about it being the squasher. I happen to like the TIB suspension too. In stock configuration that is. It lasts a long time and can be abused. But try altering your ride height on most any Ford truck without a straight axle and the games begin in a big way. You can find yourself in a pickle when the only way to align your wheels is by heating or bending stuff.

Off topic, but try altering your ride height more than an inch on a Ford 4x4 TTB suspension and multiple the above PITA by a factor of three. I have almost $400 tied up in a 2 inch lift on my Bronco. I never would have opened that cans of worms had I known.

At this point, I don't have the welding skills to hack off a front end and go darkside and install a volare clip. Like Dewayne I want to get mine down but not so low as to scrape the mufflers off the damn thing. The parts are available but I don't trust my welding. The really darkside s10 chassis is within 1/4 inch or so of correct wheelbase or so I read and would seem to be an easier swap to gain ifs and discs and power.

AS for keeping all ford, I have a trans am column and m/c booster set up w/hanging pedal I was going to install.

Thoughts? Course I am going to drop in a 302 and auto trans .
