Has anyone out there reversed thier shackles on front springs from the front to the rear. ORD makes a kit for $499.00 (expensive!). I have read this improves the ride substantially. I would like to hear from someone who has done this modification and knows the results before going to the trouble.
Mine is a "89" F350 so doesn't ride like the newer ones. Ford must have realized the ride improvement also if they are now putting them on the rear. By doing this modification you also gain a 2" lift which I would like if the ride improves along with it.
A guy who lives like a mile away from our shop has the ORU shackle reversal on his '94 F-350 w/8.5" total lift and 42" Michelin military tires. Here's what he replied when I asked him what he thought of it and if it was worth the money.:
Yep, I got the shackle reversal, the ride improved tremendously over stock. I think it was well worth the money. Plus, it was the only way I could more suspension lift out of it, since Skyjacker 6" is the biggest lift for it.
I'm confused, I thought reversing shackles was an old Jeep trick for those that had the pivot on the rear of the front spring and the "C" shackle in the front? You mean Ford did this on late model 350's?? Talk about repeating an old mistake...
Yes you are exactly right. They did this on the straight axle Dana 60 front end system. I am anxious to change and gain two inches lift on the old 4 door buggy. lolol
