how would you hook up your fog lights?

That is, if you were to buy a set and install them and the wiring yourself. Would you have them wired to light with the headlights, parking lights, or alone only with the ignition on? I am going to install a set tomorrow and haven't yet decided which way would be the best. How would you do it and why that way? Thanks..HX

I would put a relay under the hood and hot wire to batt then I would run a wire from a key on wire under the steering col to a sw and back to the relay coil..

Thanks for the reply 99. Maybe I wrote it wrong. I know HOW to do it, just wanting ideas on which would be better. Lights, park lights, or being able to turn them on whether the other lights are on or not. Thanks again..HX

I always run my extra lights to auxilary switches I just like having the option of turning on only the fog lights so at night if you wana get away from sombody out here in the middle of knowwhere you can turn your normal lights off so you dont have any tails and just run with you fogs on works great

Ya I know Thats why I said what I said. Thats the way I would do it so that you can turn them on whenever the key is in run. And you won't leave them on.

Okay Dick. Then just running to the fuse panel and getting switched power from there, provided that particular fuse is fed off the ignition "on", such as the radio etc., would be fine?

I would grab a wire from just under the steering col. With a razor take out 1/2 inch of the insulation. gray yellow stripe wire.Hook up two or 3, 14 or 16 gauge wires to the big one and solder and tape. use one of them for your lights and you will have two spares for future use. for the lights you can use a 16 gauge cause you are only hooking it to the coil of the relay..

Hey I just got done putting my fogs in tonight. I wired the power off of the marker lights on either side then grounded them both together under the hood. I used vampire clips to tap into the factory wires and shrinked all connections. Looks great and there is no extra switches inside, the fogs come on with the parking lights. Good luck.

I got mine all wired and mounted, cut a nice 1/2" x 1" hole in my dash under the light switch, for the lighted rocker switch. Tested it all and it didn't work. Took the switch out and looked at it. says 16A 240V AC. That's the switch that came with the light kit. I don't know if that's the problem or not, I will go buy another switch 12V DC, tomorrow and see if that matters.

Shouldn't matter I think its just a rating....What doesn't work? the lights or the indicator...easy enough to test..

I had a bad ground to the lights, they work now. The switch still won't light up though.

Possible the switch light is bad, or, going by the rating you posted it will illuminate with 240VAC.

My take on the original question, I would wire mine independently of the headlights/parking lights.

I did the same thing but used a relay.

I also removed my tow hooks and put the Hella 550s in their place.

I wired mine the way I did out of shear laziness. I didn't feel like running wires inside. Plus, I knew that I'd always want them on when my parking lights were on anyways.
