My 2016 F350 was bought used. I am pretty sure it came with a key to the spare tire but I cannot locate it. This caused me to be stuck on the road with no way to replace a blown tire (it ruined the whole fender btw).
I tried ordering one from amazon but quickly found that they are not all the same.
I then tried going to a ford dealer and tried the 2 dozen keys (the "master" set) they had but none fit.
There is no way to access the area in order to use tools (drill, easy out, etc) to remove the security device.
For those of you wondering, it looks like this https://imgur.com/a/U9luM97. This was taken with a bore scope the dealer had.
Does anyone have a way to remove these? For my area, I am pretty sure I would be fine without one. Nobody is going to steal my spare. I just need to get it off.
Ideas?
Gotcha. Been a long time since I've had to get one of those.. Usually the dealers master set will get you fixed up, but since youve already tried that then really the only option is to cut the cable and then buy a new spare tire winch assembly. Cutting the cable be careful, its under tension.
Yep, Those folks have always made all of Fords lock style lugnuts and keys for spare tires. Its been a long time since I got up with them, but last time I remember they where pretty helpful..
