This is the truck

This is my 49 F1 that I have been working on for the last year. It has come a long ways since I first got it. With the help of you great people on this forum I was able to make a lot of progress and to that I say thank you to all of you for your input. Only two more things to do and it's finished. One is to pull the instrument cluster out and replace the oil pressure gauge, and the other is to fix the wiper motor. Neither one looks like a fun projct to do but it's got to be done

Nice truck. Before you pull the dash cluster, make sure your oil pressure sender is well-grounded to the engine. Having teflon tape or silicone on the threads will interrupt the circuit. Easier to check the sender than pull the dash.

As for the wiper motor....go to the local gymnastics practice center, talk to the coach and ask who wants to make $100 by contorting themselves upside down under the dash. A gymnast under 5 feet tall would be best.

Ther is no tape on the sending unit. I don't seem to have any power going down to the unit. I did take the wire off and grounded it and then turned on the key and the gauge never moved. Using a test light I have power on one side of the gauge but nothing on the otherside . The previous owner had changed all the gauges but I think he had the wrong sending unit in there so it may have caused some damage to the gauge. I even tried running a new wire down to the sending unit and still nothing. I did do a pressure test to the truck and have very good oil pressure. Thank you for the compliment on the truck

I noticed your air meter also. It looks like it's functional. It sure does look good. Where is your compressor hidden?

John, yours looks good too especially with the stand. Was yours originally green? What's the electrical cord for.... is it lighted?

Air meter is functional, my compressor is in the garage and piped over to the other bay and tied into the air meter. The other day I picked up the gas station island hose with the bell on it. I will be setting that up across my driveway, hoping to get a gas pump by the end of summer

I think you can test the gauge with a D cell battery. Hook it up and it should move to 1/2 way as I understand it....

Thank you for that tip. I did test the new gauge with a set of jumper wires from the gauge to the D cell and it moved to the half way point as you said. I then ran the two jumpers down from the gauge in the truck to the D cell and nothing. I guess I hae to go through the timely job of taking down the cluster and replace the gauge. Not as young as I used to be but it has to be done. Thanks again for the tip

It’s not that hard. I never pulled the cluster, just the gauge. I pulled my seat to make it easier but I’m old.

Can you change the gauge without pulling out the entire cluster?? I am old also, almost 80 but keep telling myself I am younger
