1997 f150 to 1996 F150 M5OD swap

Sooooo will an M5OD out of a 1997 f150 with V6 fit in a 1996 f150 with straight 300 cu in six ? Friends of mine bought a 1997 with rusted broken frame .... wanted it for low miles engine for in a Mustang ....wanted to know if I could use the transmission. So Ford Truck Enthusiasts experts you have always been helpful to me so what have you to say this time ....and as always ...thanks in advance for your advice

I *think* it's the same bellhousing pattern, but I am not 100% sure.

it won't swap
The 4.2 has the Essex bell housing pattern and the 4.9 has the Windsor pattern

The RWD 4.2 shares the pattern with the Windsor engines.

The sideways 3.8/3.9/4.2 may be a different story for another time…
