I picked up a Remy Gold from a salvage yard 5 1/2 years ago and it's lasted about 65,000 miles with no problems. It's made by Remy.
You'll probably never use 180 amps of output unless you're charging a completely dead battery. Ford made the 130 amp standard output somewhere between your 2000 and my 2003.
