hi,again! my 47 1/2 ton has been running for 5000 mi. like this since i rebuilt the 1951 v8 flatty, it strarts off with 35 lb. oil pressure, but drops down to 2 to 0 after about 5 miles. even with 40wt oil. runs great tho! on my rebuild all i did was rings and valve assy. I checked some of the bearings they seemed ok. reading on this and other sites I see that oil pressure varies alot. i am all stock and use that oil filter can as it came with the truck.. it has that oil flow reduser off the input hose like it should . any idea why my pressure drops so far? worn bearings? I checked the oil pump filter it was ok. Oil does seem to get dirty fast, I change it ever 1500 or so.
Flatheads are low pressure oil systems, but your readings seem too low to me.
First, I would want to rule the pressure indicating system out. Have you tested the gauge with D cell batteries? Have you tried another KS sending unit? Or can you plumb in a physical pressure gauge?
Second, what oil pump does it have? Is the screen clean/clear?
What is the condition of the oil pressure relief spring? They are inexpensive to replace.
Obviously, this also points to bearings... Did you plastigauge them?

What are you using for a gauge? Have you used other gauges to verify your readings? Where is the oil pressure sender connected?
