Wow. That's a relief. Thank you. I have a pending P0306 code and I got a little worried.

Yep, no worries on this port. The heads are the same casting on both sides. If this head were a driver's side head, this "port", plus a bit of machining, would be a coolant passage.
Extra freaky to me because it has a gasket! . . . and a thing bolted to it "wrong" while it runs just fine.
I bet people will be asking about this until the end of time. This was my first tech question after I joined!
Now 2,641 days, 10,599 posts, and many hard pulls later and it's still fine.
. . . and I've seen the same question come along probably once or twice per year since then.
