Trying to figure out if I even want to touch this. I have access to a 6R75 core that was flat towed when its original vehicle died. Supposedly slowly, but from what I'm aware quite a distance.
I'm not nervous about rebuilding a 6R75, but more trying to find out if anyone has seen what usually fries in a 6R75 or 6R80 in this scenario. Trying to determine if this core is worth using or if I should go hunting. If it's likely to need normal rebuild parts and maybe a set of thrust bearings and bushings, that's not a huge deal. If they tend to seize and eat something in the case, that's another matter.
For what it's worth, output shaft still turns normally.
Looking back at my cutaway that makes sense. I feel like I'd have good odds of being able to feel that as stickiness in the output shaft if it isn't downright seized. Sounds like it may be worth rolling the dice on if it still feels good, and worst case I see rear gear sets for only a few hundred bucks if I find an issue.
There is no lube to the geartrain with the engine not running and the planet is spinning up the geartrain. If it's not melted, you are good.
The output shaft is turning and that bushing will ruined first. I've seen a few transmissions ruined by a flat tow. A few miles and you're probably fine. For the right price, it might be worth it but I certainly would not just shove it in a vehicle to see if it works.
