Well fellas, might buy me my first Cummins!
My work truck is an 03 Ram 1500 4.7 SCLB that looks exactly the same so I'm rather familiar with the chassis and it would be cool to get the 1500 a big brother ha ha.
I'd have to catch a flight and drive the thing 2000kms home which is a risk of course, but I've had very good luck when buying used trucks so I'm thinking of rolling the dice on this one

I bought a 94' 12 valve last year and immediately put all new shocks, springs, control arms, led tail lights for the flat bed, new headlights (still sitting on the shelf). So it still cost me a bit after swallowing the price, which wasn't too awful bad compared to what all else was out there. The only way I think you can do better is to get one that someone has maintained immaculately. But then you are going to spend another 15-20k. There were a couple in that realm I almost went for. But in the end all I needed was an old truck to haul water and garbage so what I went with made more sense.
Not to mess with you. But I'll throw out my predictions on what you'll need. Unit bearings, carrier bearing and possibly a u-joint or 2, all new fluids...duh, if the springs aren't clapped out in at least the rear some airbags if not both airbags or timbrens and a new set of HD springs, shocks, t-style steering to replace the y-style garbage (even if you already have t-style it'll probably need at least one new end), rebuilt steering gear box at some point (if you're lucky they've already done that and the brace).
$2500-ish and you could probably take care of all of that. I'm not an auto guy so I'd personally be keeping an eye out for a manual to swap in. But with 300,000 miles on it and it's still going it shouldn't just fall completely apart on you suddenly. Guy has kept it going this far. I think you could have a very nice starting point on your hands there. Good luck with it. I'd appreciate updates if you care to give 'em. Which way are you driving? I'm near Billings MT if you run into trouble. I'll knock on would that you don't...
ETA: Thinking about this more. Looking around the net here that price is seemingly a little too good to be true. I think some swindling might possibly be afoot. Not to insult you. Post the link to the ad. It's just everywhere I look these are priced higher by a fair margin. Maybe you're getting a deal, be careful...

Every once in a while someone inherets a vehicle and just wants quick cash or is down on their luck etc etc.
Funny enough, I was just out running errands and low and behold some old timer drove right in front of me in a parking lot driving a truck exactly like the one I just posted, same color, year, configuration, amount of rust and a 5.9 lol.
I was shocked as I don't see that very often 😁
