2000 Eddie Bauer Expedition needs interior restoration. I understand the color for by cluster and radio bezel is Medium Parchment, but haven’t color tested yet.
Does anyone have a recommended method for flaking dash paint removal and repainting tips? Very tedious so far and there’s a lot of loose paint.
The crummy steering wheel problem needs to be recovered also but I need to keep that under $100, if you have a suggestion!?
It matches really well. Once installed and out in the daylight, it does appear to be its own shade but I won’t need to paint the adjacent piece under the steering wheel and the fuse panel cover since they weren’t flaking. I had previously thought they were a perfect match under shop lights but not quite and I’m unsure if they were originally.
I’m happy with the paint color and it covered the black plastic really well. I also used their Prep Spray.
If I could do it over, I would have taken more time to feather the edges of the original paint as it shows through but I’ll live with it as is. The plastic is textured and I didn’t want to sand all of it smooth! This turned out to be more tedious than I wanted already. I don’t have it put back together yet but here’s how the big piece looked once I scraped off the loose paint. Yes the cigar lighter door is actually molded tan but painted also.
The paint job is good (sanding the paint chipped edges would have been ann improvement). I ended up trying this $14 Chinese leather cover from eBay. Doesn’t match obviously but I’m content with it. I had to use some quilting fabric underneath the leather to add thickness to my skinny grubby old wheel … fit and feel is pretty good.
Yes, it was simpler than I expected. Just looping through the stitching that it came with to bring the edges together.
In my case, quilting fabric was needed so the cover wouldn’t be loose and double sided tape to keep that in place while stretching the leather cover. Tape also to keep the leather cover in place where it crosses the wide part of the wheel.
