So I have a 2003 Ranger, 2.3 , 5 speed, 230k miles … my first time with something that has a working computer and a diagnostic plug. I just replaced the MAF sensor after Oreileys scanner said most likely and it does run Wwaayy better now… but check engine light came back on after about 30 miles and now the gas cap light is on again … a few months ago it came on and O’reileys said replace the gas cap which I did but since then the light will come on and off intermittently … my question is … in the evap system is there anything else that can give the gas cap reading and light to come on or did I get a faulty gas cap and I should get another ? I can feel a slight miss when the light comes on and seems to have less power too … anything else I should look for ?

I would read the actual code. There are different types of Evap system faults.
Sounds like you have a small leak, that is not permanent since it was gone for a while. That could be a sticky valve. But you need to do some diagnostic work before swapping parts.
This guy does a great job of finding problem sources. Worth watching a few videos.
