These are listed on FB near me for $200. I was thinking about grabbing them for my ‘97 to send out to Rosewood for rebuild to Stage 1 but was curious about the mismatch in code letters. There are six AE, one AD and one AB, it’s the last AB in the upper left that I was curious about as “I think” the others are correct but not that one?
The 5 injectors with metal cap on solenoid are FoMoCo reman's the other 3 could be Alliant remans.
AD split shot injectors 140/0 factory injector for late 99-03
AE injector split shot 140/0 replacement injector for Cyl 8 to help reduce cackle e99-03
i would definitely buy them they are cheap, and send them out to Rosewood diesel, to have them flow tested to see if they are factory 140/0 or they have been modified to something else.
Also they won't work with your OBS with out tuning the PCM, it will run but have weird idle and loppy starts
Didn't see the AB injector, that's a 120/0 split shot injector for 97 cali emissions to early 99 7.3.

Yeah, I was think that if they were going to be rebuilt that they could be matched to work. I will call Rosewood to figure it out.

What a nice dude Jim is, he said it’s no trouble what the classification is as the internals would all be disposed of anyway. He also said that it’s a possibility that the solenoids were just swapped out along the way too. At $200, I think it’s a good deal yes? It’ll also allow me to drive my truck until they are built.
I thought doing it this way would actually save some money but having just looked at pricing on stage 1 injectors, is there benefit in having Rosewood rebuild these or just getting them from RiffRaff or other reputable suppliers as the rebuild and purchase price new is the same?
Could always sell off if so, use the mystery box for cores so limited down time.
That was my original thought, but $200 for cores and $1300 for Rosewood vs $1300 for buying from RiffRaff or some other place. I was wondering if there was a quality difference between Rosewood and off the shelf sticks from a retailer?
my current injectors are fine (I think) just 230k on them. As I have been upgrading, I was thinking of doing I this order:
-EFuel
-CNC stage 1 HPOP
-Injectors
-Then maybe Hydra chip
Check your HPOP on a hot tune, mine was clapped around 250k. I posted all my data, I would do that before sticks...no amount of injector will compensate for flaccid fuel atomization.
Agreed, do inj way later. Start with the basis, I would add 910s and pushrods as inexpensive and help keep valve action.
I also feel that injectors should be the last piece of the puzzle. Build a solid foundation then build the injectors. If you do sticks now you could end up chasing other problems, like a weak hpop or fuel pressure issues. Injectors tax the system that everything else supports. If they were dorked up, sure get some sticks but if they run well enough work on the foundation first.
Thanks for the time honored experience and recommendations, much appreciated.
Are springs and push rods a real bitch to do with the motor in place? I wasn’t expecting internals to be part of my new equation! I’ve done a lot of valves on my Datsuns and motorcycles but those were a lot more accessible.
It's not a deal breaker but these engines do have weak valve springs, specially with time where the valve or seat start to wear down. Yes it can be done in truck but is a pain, I rather have engine out and have the head redone with new valves, springs, valve guides and if needed valve seats but that's just me.
From experience with an old worn high mileage truck i had the pleasure of bending some push rods on a hot tune with 160/0 injectors.
