Crossmember bolts not tightened by mechanic

I have a 1994 Ford Ranger XL. I had a Mechanic replace the clutch with clutch kit assembly. When he reassembled it I believe he missed tightening the nut and bolt on each side of the transmission mount crossmember because I can see the gap and I know it was not like that before I took it to him. Would that cause damage to my transmission or to anything else?

Shouldn't do any damage unless the bolts fall out and the crossmember drops. Makes you wonder what else might be loose though.

Sure. If they work out the trans could drop if you hit the right series of bumps or railroad tracks at speed.

What's to stop you from crawling under there and tightening them up yourself? Or taking it back to your mechanic and asking him to do it if you don't own any ramps? Oversights happen on occasion and this only becomes a problem if you don't get it corrected, one way or another.

After work was done on truck I drove about 70 miles on a freeway little rough in some areas. It's when I was getting off the freeway home. I shifted out of OD or 5th gear to neutral, light changed tried to put it in a gear would not go into any gear. Also now there is metal shavings in trans fluid now. When I checked and changed fluid before I had the work done and there was no metal on drain plug. Does anyone know what could have happened then? It wasn't extremely hot or cold and I was not towing or hauling anything. Any ideas?

The crossmember bolt problem won't affect the internals of the transmission.

It looks like you had the clutch replaced becuase you were having shifting problems, when the problems might have been inside the transmission. All manual transmissions have a small amount of metal shavings in them. It's normal.
