1988 ranger xltfuel gauge
I am new to the ranger world. My 1988 truck's fuel gauge needle drops from full quickly; I am not sure if there is something wrong with the gauge or it is normal behavior for this old trucks. For example, after 23 miles the needle sits between full and 3/4. At this cadence, at half tank it will be 92 miles, which is half what it should be. Any thoughts?
My 78 Merc Zypher wagon fuel gauge began acting up sorta like that shortly after E10 fuel was the norm. A couple of tanks of gas with Chevron Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner recipe at the prescribed 1-oz/gal treat rate at the pump before filling, so to get good mixing, fixed that puppy up.
Its PDS says in writing thar it can remove corrosion from the float contacts. Seeing as the gauge is working, just not accurately & E10 was known to mess with those era sending units, they belong on the suspect list.
NAPA was running a deal on the qt size Techron, so check them out if you decide to try it & let us know how it goes.
