292 Ram Header Bolts

Hi all. Trying to pull the ram headers from my 292 for the first time and running into trouble with a couple bolts. I've tried thin wall socket, box end, even grinding down a wrench. Nothing seems to be able to both grip the head and not get caught up on the surrounding metal. They got on so I am sure there is a trick, but I cannot see it. Anybody more experienced have advice?

Did you purchase John Mumford rams horn manifold? I installed them a few years ago and I
think I used a flat washer on the bolt first for clearance on some. I tried to reuse the original lock washers with tabs that bend up also, so that added a little more to raise the head. Maybe
you could use a dremel to grind away some material also. I ended up reinstalling the original exhaust after I realized it would be pretty hard to even drive to a shop for exhaust installation. I haven’t had the dual exhaust done yet, but I’m concerned on how low the DS pipe will need to be in order the get around the steering column. I may use a different style lock on them, such as Stage 8, when it comes time or maybe let muffler shop figure it out.

I hadn't considered using a dremel to make room. Thanks! Not sure if they are from John Mumford, all the exhaust was done by a shop 15 years ago without the same people there anymore.

Stage 8

No specific kit for Y-Block but you could match the bolt size. With that tight of clearance on the RAM style exhaust, these Stage 8 probably wouldn’t work either, but maybe you could purchase SS bolts that have the allen or torx option.

6 point 3/8 drive thin wall socket works fine but you may need to tap the socket onto the head a little bit to get a good grip!

Thanks for the tip of tapping it on. Ended up getting dumb luck. Switched to the Craftsman set to tap on and found out it is slightly thinner and slid on perfectly. Thought most decent brands would be essentially the same size just different metal, but no I know to try different sets!
