Didn't think it was going to happen to me but it did. It threw a code, po300 which is multiple misfire. Was running okay. Took it to Ford the following morning and it started running rough so I knew I had something going on. Ford after examining it said lifter went bad on cylinder number 8 wiping out the cam lobe which in turn sent debris into the motor and messed up the cylinder walls requiring a new engine. Luckily I did not have to pay for it because I bought an extended warranty when I purchased the truck brand new. However they kept the truck for a long time and I missed lots of work but it is what it is. Just got the truck back and it seems to be running a okay. It only has 92,000 miles and maintenance was done religiously. Oil changes at 5,000 Mi with Ford oil and filters. I hope the lifters in this reman motor are of higher quality. We will see
Mine bit it at 36,8xx miles. I've got 25K on the replacement. So far so good. Glad you had a warranty. I assume you got a whole new long block?
Mine gave no warning. Many talk about tapping like yours. Mine just suddenly broke. I had multiple lose rocker arms. They had me back on the road in three business days!
May be the first or second 23 I've seen with bad lifter(s). It's also a F-550... is there any difference in that engine and the 250/350 pickups?
honestly I don't think there's any difference between the two. I think Ford rates them at different horsepower at lower RPM. Overall I'm very happy with the engine although I'm disappointed it let go at 92,000 miles.

Best of luck to you.
yes it's a complete long block assembly with a 3-year unlimited mileage warranty
No one can say you don't know how to make an engine last!
My 2013 6.2 "I hope" will be my last.
yeah I had amazing Good Fortune with my 2012 6.2 gas. That motor was Bulletproof. 417,000 Mi on the original motor and about 538,000 on the reman.
hit a cow at 60 MPH and totaled my truck. Or I may still be driving it. All original transmission too . never had to do a thing to it except change the fluid and filter occasionally
other than internet I have yet to know anyone with a failure.
this article said 1 in 500. And I'm sure some of those are neglect induced failures. It's definitely not as bad as the forums suggest. I believe that guys with failures are filling every forum with their failure making it look way worse than it really is
Best would be a manufacturing problem - easy to correct with better quality control.
Next would be an incorrect specification. Change the specification and move on.
Lastly would be a design flaw - best case it's just the lifter, worst case it's the lifter, cam, block, oiling system, etc.
CORRECTION- Lastly would actually be if Ford DOESN'T KNOW why the failures are happening, and if they're sending long block replacement that fail again - they may well not.
