Snow Plow Wiring
So when I bought my F250, it was wired for a plow and had the truck side mounting brackets. I've been casually looking for a plow since. I have plowed snow in the past and have owned a few rigs with Fisher plows, but have been out of touch long enough to find that they changed the electrical wiring system again. I was very familiar with the 3 plug system on the Minute Mount 2s but now they have switched to the 2 plug system called Fleet Flex. I say that as if it were new but that was like 10 years ago!
Anyway, the F250 is wired for Fleet Flex. Looking for a used plows, the FF plows are rare and expensive. 3 plug plows are a dime a dozen. Found a plow on Marketplace that was advertised as 2 plug that needed some wiring repaired. As I found out, it was a 3 plug that was converted to 2 by by a "mechanic". I got it for a very good price from a young guy who doesn't have time to deal with it. The plow functions, but only turns left. For every action, it only goes left. I have some ideas, but I thought I might try asking the group. Picked it up last night so I haven't had time to dive in yet.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Leo
unfortunately the Western fleet flex plows are hard to convert to 3 plug, same as a 3 plug is hard to convert to 2 plug. the easiest way to convert is switch the truck side harness for the plow you have.
We actually contract out people to install plows, and half of them cannot get them to work, and they are supposed to know what they are doing. One of them was thrown in my lap and after studying the diagrams, I concluded it would never work (the light portion of it) and that it was best to bypass a fancy module that was installed and just run the plow lights on toggle switches, and tie in the turn signals and markers to the truck's wiring. Still working fine to this day.
