Heat works TOO good!

Ever since I got my '04 Expedition, the heat is hard to shut off. The valve under the hood shuts off, but heat keeps blowing. After I shut the system off and on a few times, I'll start to get cold air. The co0mpressor is working just fine. Is there a blend door in the dash that is hanging? If so, where? I've had other vehicles do this. Lincoln, Ford, Mercedes and so on. It's another of several reasons I prefer older iron. Last summer I learned to just leave it engaged once I got cold air. This year, it seems it's stuck on heat even though the supply valve is shut.

I have another truck that had an arm break off a blend door. I hooked a steel wire and made a handle to move it by hand. What can I do with this puppy?

I am not too familiar with the newer gen of Expedition, sorry. My guess is blend door is broken or motor stuck. My '01s had this issue so I did the updated door (reinforcement on the point at motor).

I had a BMW like that once as the stepper motors that directed airflow broke the ear off a blend door. Hot as AF from half the vehicle.

I've been looking and it seems there are three blend doors. The one in the back for rear air and heat went out last winter and is new and working fine. Where is the blend door for the heat and cool? Is it in the upper dash? My vents are working fine. Currently, the rear air is working fine. The front is still warm.

Fairly common failure item with Ford HVAC systems. Especially if the system is run in AUTO temp control all the time. Less likely to fail if the system is run in manual temp control. Also, if you have a infrared temp gun check the temperature of the heater hoses on the firewall side of the water valve, to make sure the water valve is in fact shutting off hot water flow to the heater core when you're requesting cold air. Hot water valves fail as well.

Here's a great video Brian posted:

I don't have automatic temperature control. It's all manual. The vacuum operated valve under the hood closes, I just don't get cold air up front. The rear air puts out cold.

The overall replacement procedure is the same.
For manual HVAC system the blend door actuator should be this one : Expedition Manual HVAC Blend Door Actuator at Rock Auto

I ordered an actuator yesterday. I'll get it in before the really hot weather moves in. If nothing else, I can run the rear a/c.
