Check your VIN #
I went out yesterday to verify the VIN on my truck for the insurance company. Much to my suprise was the numbers I never took much notice of. The first 4 numbers of the VIN are :
1FTE
I guess my truck even knows that FTE is # 1 !!!

My dad just got rid of his '86 F150.
I wouldn't have any clue what the vin # was, except I got an online printout for the verification on removing it from the insurance. It starts with 1FTE also, never noticed that before. That is Kool

This is what the first 4 #'s mean
1) Country of origin.
1 or 4 (USA), 2 (Canada), 3 (Mexico), J (Japan), K (Korea), S (England), W (Germany), Z (Italy).
2) Manufacturer.
A (Audi), B (BMW), 4 (Buick), 6 (Cadillac), 1 (Chevrolet), C (Chrysler), B (Dodge), F (Ford), 7 (GM Canada), G (General Motors), H (Honda), A (Jaguar), L (Lincoln), D (Mercedes Benz), M (Mercury), N (Nissan), 3 (Oldsmobile), 2 or 5 (Pontiac), P (Plymouth), 8 (Saturn), T (Toyota), V (Volvo).
3) Vehicle type.
4-8) Vehicle information
Ex: Engine size, cylinders, carburetion, fuel type, wheel drive, tonnage, etc.

According to Ford's own website (2003 VIN coding information) the 'E' in 2003 1FTE VINs means that you have side airbags. I didn't know they ever made F-150's with side airbags. :/
The E must mean something different in other year models.
