About XP

I have windows XP home on my laptop, and am quite happy with it, after some concerns when I first got to use it. Everything is resolved but now I discover a problem that has me stumped.

This computer does not display .gif animated images correctly. They do not move, what is going on, can this be a setting I have not found, or am I just unlucky?

No animated icons, or graphics display any movement. So, the cute moving smilies just sit there, motionless. CTFuzzy's bouncing man is in mid squash, and the walking goblin elsewhere is just standing around, looking bored.

Theo, I have XP on my desktop and the GIF pictures are moving. Can you display GIF's properly when not on the forum?

What internet browser are you using?
If I look at .gifs on AOL or whatever it won't show
But if I look at them on IE it shows fine.

Do you have "cookies" disabled in the settings section?

They do not work on IE, Netscape 7.1, or Opera, so it is an operating system thing.

Theo.

I'm thinking memory management. Check out the page file size. Here is a reliable info source for the things you will need to know:

In IE 6.0 try:

Tools
Internet Options
Advanced
MultiMedia
Play Animations in web pages

I love it when people assume I know what the heck I am doing.. Thank you for the link, Fuzz, but I have to admit that it meant less than nothing to me. It spoke of things I never knew existed, so I did as it suggested, and was fascinated with the things revealed. All I could figure out is that the Page file usage is zero, and the memory usage is less than 50%..

I have 5** meg of ram, and am using less than 230meg. with a bunch of programs running.

And still, the gifs don't move.

I wish that life had stayed at the early 90's level, when I knew things about computers.

I can see there is no getting around coming to visit you.

Was it this month you are taking off for the left coast?

There are some settings in browsers to disallow animations to check on. There are also some performance settings in XP that you might want to check.

It is already checked...

I think it must be in XP itself, as none of the browsers play animated gifs..

I told you all computers hate me.. They are trying to kill me.
