First thing you would do as President?

What would be the first thing you do if elected?

We just had this debate at work and I heard some very cool ideas, and was wondering what you all thought.

Cut back welfare, Medicare, and Social Security. I would put the money back in the peoples hands. If you blow it on new ford trucks don't come crying to me when you cant support yourself, buy medications, or fund retirement.

Sounds cold but I wont ask you to support me and my family, so don't ask me to support yours.

hm.... disown california? move the capital to Texas? Make fords the national truck? The presidential motorcade is alot of S/C 350 duallies? annex western Canada and Cancun? make a rather large parking lot in the middle east?...oh reasonable.

hhmmm...good quistion.I would like to say the economy, but how do I get the people to realize that it is them that is messing crap up? perhaps realign foreign policy... oh yeah and invent a new pay scale for the military based on the job skills, make it follow civilian trends and get rid of all that PC liberal crap.

and what he said...cut back on the socialist programs. People need to earn their keep, with the exceptions of the truelly needy. i.e. some 800 pound (female dog) will not be getting crap for free gov't medical, and for dang sure not going to have the city building her her very own custom gov't provided housing because she cannot fit through the doors on her previous gov't provided housing that she was in because she could not work....because of her gross weight problem (which was not a medical condition, just her being a fat-@ss who eats to damn much)

sorry,
not gonna get elected

Fire every carrear politician I could. Even if I had to officially declare civil war to do it.

I would then take out my sharpie and amend the laws of this Nation to make them about as welcome in this atmposhere as methane from a fat lady left in a phone booth.

Then I would come to FTE and start making job offers (with the US Armed Forces to back me up)

I'd start whacking Federal programs with a vengence. Then I'd start recinding former presidential executive orders. After lunch, I'd start on our foreign policy.

Actually, I would keep them- AND PUT THEM ON COMISSION. Tell Congress that they PERSONALLY get to keep, say, 25% of whatever they can cut from the budget.

In order for THAT to work, you outlaw ALL campaign contributions. They get X number of minutes to speak at debates; otherwise, we outlaw all campaign advertising.

Eliminate the need, exacerbate the greed. The results would be swift and substantial.

The replies so far are interesting, but for the most part impossible. We have a President (not a king) with very limited powers. In my opinion, the greatest power of the President is the "bully pulpit". I would like to see a LEADER (not a politician) who would use his/her powerful access to constantly expose the insanity of our current fiscal policies which are flushing us down the tubes at an alarming (at least to me) rate ( now you know why I wasted a vote on Ross Periot). I would like for him to propose to the public and the congress the radical changes which are called for: a balanced budget; means testing of all new programs; review and sunset regs for existing programs; "real numbers" government accounting; overhaul of all entitlement programs; moving responsibilities (and funds) back to the states, application of any surplus to the debt; sound, proven businesses practices in government; use of the military for it's intended purpose; the list goes on. This would take a leader with courage and intergrity to rally an awakening public. We do not have such a leader now and I do not see one on the political horizon.

I would cut federal spending in 10% phases per year to 50% of it's current level and pay off the national debt with the rest and put the rest back in the taxpayers hands. Then the administrators of these social programs would have to find a way to figure out who really needs the help and who doesn't.

My spending cuts would only include maybe 10 or 15 percent of the military budget and mostly be cutting federal programs that have no business existing in the first place. After I got the debt paid off I would lower taxes and eventually do away with most federal programs and let the states administer and fund the ones that they and not people from across the country deem necessary. Then those voters would have more say in how those programs were funded and run.

Thanks, but I have this penchant for pissing people off that would not make me much of a politician. I would probably be the first President assassinated by his own cabinet.
