07 Sport Trac when I start first in morning Runs very rough and goes into forced idle for 5 to 10 min. Then restart and runs fine all day except for using more fuel. Code p2135, p2107, p2104
Checked up on the codes and just don't know where to start. Any help appreciated
All three of those codes point toward an issue with the throttle body. What do you mean by "forced idle?" Do you mean even if you step on the throttle, the engine remains at idle speed? It sounds like your 2007 Sport Trac has Throttle By Wire. I don't have my service manual with me here to confirm. Do you have a multimeter where you can monitor the battery voltage during the first start of the day and during the 5-10 minutes of idle? How old is the battery?
Hi, yes during that time there no response from the gas peddle. I am not sure of the age of the battery and I am looking at all components and sensors around the throttle body. I have ordered both a TPS and MAF sensor. I will dig up my multimeter and test battery during the start. It only happens in cold weather and the smell from the exhaust says it is running very rich.
The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor would not have any contribution to those codes. You'd be better off to take the money that you'd spend on a MAF sensor and apply it towards a scan tool so that you can datastream the various sensors to see if maybe this is an issue with one or more of the pedal position sensors (again assuming throttle by wire).
Thank you, I will be investing in a scan tool. In the meantime time I will replace the TPS and hope that solves it. The sensor on the peddle seems to be built into peddle assembly and is expensive. I read the Idle Air Control could cause similar issues during cold start but cannot find the part online so assuming it is built into the throttle body? And my next step would be a new throttle body after testing electrical and connections.
I assume the same. With a throttle-by-wire system the throttle plate is operated by a stepper motor. With a conventional cable-actuated throttle the IAC valve is operated by a stepper motor to adjust how much air can bypass the throttle plate. So if all of this is done at the throttle body by stepper motors, there shouldn't be a need to have a separate IAC on a throttle-by-wire system. However, I don't think that's always the case, but very well could be on your Sport Trac.
Thank you guys for all of your help and suggestions. After carefully checking electrical connections and testing end to end wiring with no significant problems, I went ahead and changed the throttle body. The truck now starts and runs like never before. Thank you again!!
