Needing Info Quick. Stuck on the road, need to drop the fuel tank?
Any special tools needed to drop the tank to drain it.Or any other suggestions to remedy the situation in a hurry?
Stuck in Big Timber Montana at a fuel pump.
Thanks
My understanding is you cannot get a cyphon hose into the tanks on these truck.
I watched a video A-Rod made about a 2017 truck and pumping the fuel out using the low pressure fuel pump in the tank and hooking up a hose at the top filter on the engine. He said he started doing this to get rid of contaimainted fuel? Seems like it would be fine to do it his way?
He showed how he jumpered the pump
Power supply on a 2017. Mine is a 2015, so I'm not sure if the pins are the same or not?
The other thing I’m wondering is if the hose barb on the upper filter is the same size as the one at the lower filter? If it is, I could connect a hose there to pump the gas out of the tank instead of up top at the engine.

so yes...on my 2019..you cant put a hose in to sipon
the AROD video I saw shows jumpering some connections to get the fuel to pump continously.
other things you can do if you have access to parts.....
if you have access to a transfer pump rated for gas...there are a few quick disconnects under the chasis....one is in front of the tank in the transfer case area......the other is more forward and in front of the transfer case output shaft. these are quick disconnect type fittings that have a male and female SAE 1/2 fitting. so to make use of that..you would need to mae a hose with a matching fitting on one end....and what ever fitting on the other end to connect to the transfer pump.
also...I dont know why on my truck...and it may not be the case on your truck....the fitting described above near the transfer case output shaft.....there are two...one feed from the tank to the engine bay...the other is a return and it comes from the fuel cooler.....about the fitting on the line from the fuel cooler.....I disconnected that once to install an inbetween filter and it did a continuos drain....it filled a 5 gallon bucket in about 30 minutes....with no pumps going.
good luck.
I guess all of our worst nightmares I just did.
In this little town, the only auto parts store is a Car Quest and an Ace Hardware. My options are limited right now. I was on a 17 hour drive back home from ID.
In the morning, I will try to get several 5-gallon buckets, siphon drain as much of the gas out through the filter drain. Hopefully, I'll be able to get new filters tomorrow. My only concern about doing the A-Rod method without dropping the tank is getting all the gas out of the tank. I don't think I'll be able to drop the tank sitting in the hotel parking lot.

3 problems though....
what to do with all the gas...maybe put up a graigs list ad for a curb alert free gas thing
make sure you have diesel ready to go into the tank
before putting in the diesel...the fuel drain would also have to be drained....and me personally would rmove and drain the engine bay fuel filter
becareful about key on with the drivers door open....for some reason ford thought it was a great idea on my truck to automatically start with key on if the door is open...with out having to put the foot on the brake....so my key on air purge fun is always with the door closed and thru the window...standing on a stool .
may not be the best idea...but a hole on the bottom of the tank will drain most of the fuel...
the expansion plug could drip leak...but if its a good size bolt you can tighten to slow the leak down
also...what to do if you drill a hole in the bottom of the tank and later whant to get rid of the expansion plug....internet sells sump plates....about the size of a cup coaster...its a system that lest you drill a 2 or 3 inch hole and then use a 1 bolt sump plate to do a perm repair...google the sump plate before doing anything.
juat another idea...may be a bad idea...one person does it and it works...another does it and its a disaster....you know how murphy's law works.

whats the verdict
did you get the fuel out or did you turn it over to a shop?
hoping you didnt drive it to the hotel

There are 2 shops very close and hopefully were able to assist on short notice. Couldn't imagine doing this in a parking lot especially if full mixed diesel/ gas tank. Drilling ahole in the tank...I don't think so. This would be a drop the tank situation and if I own the gas station wouldn't want that happening in my lot. Spills, fire who knows... accidents happen.
Hopefully we hear back with a good result in a bad situation.
I ultimately ended up paying the “Stupid Tax” to a shop!
One of the reasons why I went ahead and had them do the job was because of convenience and time. The owner, Clay, said he could take us in immediately and start working on the fix right away. It ended up costing 4.5 hours of labor for two techs., and a total bill of $815.83. This is just a future reference if anyone wants to know. Yes, it was expensive but could have been a lot worse. After thinking about all the suggestions made, and watching a couple of YT videos, I know, I could have done it myself, but there was a cost for that too. We would have had to rent a U-Haul truck for the day for at least $40. Buckets from a local Ace Hardware would have been $11.00 for a bucket and lid. I figured at least 10 or 12 buckets would be needed to flush the system out. More than likely, I wasn’t going to have a place to dispose of the gas properly and I didn’t want to haul it home in the bed of my truck with the topper and bed rug in the back. We thought about using a tank and strapping it to the U-Haul car trailer we were dragging and sourced a 65-gallon tank at $250 in Livingston, MT at Murdoch’s. The drive to get it would have been at least an hour round trip before I could even start working on flushing the system. Not sure if the hotel would have even allowed me to work on it in their parking lot either. So, after factoring all this in, it just seemed to make sense for us to just pay the shop for the work.
Here is the breakdown of what I paid the shop. Keep in mind two techs worked on it from start to finish.
1. Towed the truck to shop -$35.00
2. Remove and Replace tank, empty contents of tank, remove filters and flush out lines. Install new filters and fill with 15 gallons of diesel. Prime system and run engine- $540
3. Two new Motorcraft filters- $135
4. Parts cleaner -$4.17
5. Diesel -$49.00
6. Hazmat fee -$10.00
7. Bottle of Archoil - $44.95
Total Labor $575
Total Parts $230
In the end, paid the bill in order to make it back home in time for Christmas Eve with the kids.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and thanks for the responses.

Picture of the pump when I grabbed the wrong nozzle and filled the tank with gas and not diesel. How easily it can be done.
