Hey guys. I usually spend most of my time over in the 1967 - 1972 F100 Forum or the 1987 - 1996 F150 Forum, but I am helping a friend work on his 2007 Escape with 2.3L (non-hybrid), which I know pretty much nothing about. (I mostly know about the old 289 - 351W V8s).
His AC compressor is seized and he would like to just bypass it if possible. I've been able to find AC Bypass pulleys for the v6 models, but not for the 4-cylinder, and looking at the belt routing diagram it doesn't appear that you could just "short belt" it to bypass it.
I thought I would ask here if anyone of you knew of a way to pull this off.
Looking at other forums it appears you are correct about no bypass pulley available. And the configuration of the pullies does not allow a simple shorter belt.
I found no mention of other being able to find an idler pulley to just bolt in place either.
Are you sure it's the compressor and not just the clutch that is seized?
Thank you for your reply.
No, I'm not sure. He's going to try to pull the clutch and pulley to check.
Do you know if the pulley can be changed with hand tools or is it pressed on?
