Valvoline Premium Blue vs Shell Rotella T5 for Regen Frequency

Came across this video where the owner of a 2024 6.7PSD reports regen frequency while running Valvoline and Shell. Interesting results...

I got seasick!

That 6.7 must have been burning a lot of oil from new in order to make the DPF plug up as claimed, I'm having none of it.

I don't believe that. 23 and newer trucks regen every 497 miles like clockwork, Regardless of your DPF filter percentage.
If he says he is not seeing a regen, He is just not noticing, Because it will do a active regen every 497 miles.

I run the Valvoline 5-40. My 2023 6.7L HO will do an active regen every 497 miles. My percentage in the filter is usually 30-35% So nowhere near full.
I commute 100 miles each day. 90 miles of that commute is freeway driving at 75 mph The other 10 miles each day is surface roads between the freeway and my jobsite, trips to Home Depot, lunch etc.

Look at this photo of my Edge CTS. Average Regen, 497 miles And just like clock work, every 497 miles it does another regen.

You make a great case for having a digital monitor to know when you're in regen or NOT...

Are you saying all 23+ trucks regen at ~500 miles or just your truck?

My 22 will automatically regen around 500 miles if I leave the auto regen box checked. I've ran the Valvoline, and now the Rotella. I see no difference in regen frequency. I've been towing my 5th wheel lately, and with the auto regen box unchecked, I'm over 800 miles since last active regen due to passive regens.

my 2021 would regen regardless of oil or load until I used forecan to be able to un-check the auto regen function.

Now it is out to over 1K between.

My 2020 regens about 500 miles apart for the most part. For heavy towing trips from TX to CO (660 miles) I have several times saw it not do a regen until the next day. We usually dump the trailer and head into town for breakfast the next day. On this 25 mile round trip on at leas two occasions I have saw it regen. So that puts the regen at around 675 miles.

Funny, I just watched this video yeterday before even seeing this. I saw another thread in the Superduty chat about regens and frequency as well. What I dont understand is if the computers are programed to regen every 500 miles (or so ) then claims of additives and clean fuel, better oil...etc don't matter, especially if you havent changed any of the setting for regen through IDS or Forscan. I can usually get about 800-1000 miles before I need to turn auto regen back on if I havent done any towing, I he=ave gone 3,000 + miles before without a regen while towing for an extended period.

500 miles is typically max between regens. If you don't work it hard they will be quicker. Archoil and others can extend the range closer to the 500 if you don't tow

I think it's true of all trucks. At least newer generation. From what I've seen others who have gauges that show Average distance since last regen., Even like 2020 trucks. I don't know how far back, but its a feature in Forscan to turn it off or on.

There are a few folks that have used Forscan to turn the Automatic regen off. I prefer not to have to open up Forscan and turn a feature on or off every 500-1000 miles. Or to manually start regen. So I just leave the Automatic Regen on. The 1/2 gallon of fuel ( or whatever amount it uses) isn't worth my time to bring up Forscan and change settings.

I want to say your right but haven't really heard of anyone reporting regen frequency with these '23-'24 trucks. As for disabling the auto regen function, I can't help but wonder if its limited to ~500 miles to promote a longer dpf life span?
