Bye 7.3 and Hello 6.7...

Hey guys, transplant here from the 7.3 world. Had to say goodbye to my 2001 7.3 with 439k on the clock. It was a bittersweet move, bones of the truck were still solid, but there were lots of other issues all around the bones that I didnt feel like messing with at this stage. So i went and got a new to me 2020 F350 6.7. I hope she treats me as good as the 7.3 did. I am new to this particular forum and engine/platform but not new to the site. The 7.3 forum was tremendously helpful over the years and I hope this forum is the same way. After having my other truck for 20 yrs and knowing it intimately from bumper to bumper I am having to learn this trucks platform like its my first day of school again. Any help, tips, and tricks will be appreciated for a newcomer. Thanks in advance.

very nice. If no records or service history, an oil change and fuel filters are first up. Use oem only filters.

Check the air cleaner too.

Coolant is different then the 7.3 so learn that and get some just to have in case. check all fluids and such weekly.

the regen process is probably the hardest thing to wrap your head around. Bottom line is while it regens you dont want to shut it down and walk away. Put it in park, let it idle a few and then shut it down. give it a chance to get the fuel out of the cylinders and for EGT 11 to cool off a bit.

I use a banks idash to monitor vitals. What model is yours? Maybe it comes with the ability to disable the auto regen.

Great looking truck it should serve you well. You might want to consider adding a DPK, disaster prevention kit, to it as an insurance policy for the potential CP4 failure. The failure rate is pretty low but the costs of a failure are pretty high without it.

BTW based on the title of the thread I though you were going from gas to diesel.

Nice looking truck and you are going to fall in love with this engine. I had a 1997 7.3 for 18 years sold it with 415k, the current owner (friend) has the '97 with 605k miles on it, but its old and rusty now. My '17 is sooo nice while towing comparing the two, but I gotta admit...I miss the '97.

Hello and welcome, I hear what you are saying and feel your pain. Last October I sold my 97 7.3 std cab overlander and purchased 22 F350 6.7 supercab with a long be. I like the truck, there are many aspects to like. But, like you I do miss the 97 often. The new truck does not have a soul like the 97 did. There are those that will not understand or agree. I don't care.

Nice truck! another thing to keep an eye on is the cold side charge pipe. Unless ford changed those after 17-19

Awesome truck.
If you don't have an extended warranty you might want to look into a weight loss program for your emissions on your truck.
From your 2001 you hold on to a truck a long time.

+1 on the DPK, S&S or SPE either one, and then just DRIVE it! My first Diesel that I owned, was a 99 DRW Lariat 7.3. 3 1/2" down pipe to 5" back exhaust. Sounded good, smelled good. Then I got a 2012 deleted, Sounded LOUD, which a twister solved, but ULSD Smells Horrible, so got a 2019 instead. Used to drive a Mack Superliner back in the late 80's and loved the smell of diesel back then, it burns my sinus today, even from my old 2001 Kubota which has NO emissions. Too bad I can't burn what I did in my 99, good ol fryer oil. Man, talk about a smell, Made me Hungry for fries.

I have the carfax for what thats worth and it only looks like routine maintenance performed at the intervals. Oil and filter changes were performed by the dealer before i drove away. What is the tell tale sign on the regen? Didnt have to worry about that with the old 7.3 and when my VW Passat diesel goes into regen you can smell it. What are the signs for this one?

Someone else already mentioned that to me. The kit doesnt seem so bad on cost, but i watched a video on the install it looks like you have to take apart the world to install it. What is typical install cost for the kit?

Good looking OBS. My goal when i bought the 7.3 was to get 500k out of her and i would have done that easily if it was still daily driver. Stopped being that about 6 yrs ago. But she was showing her age, paint peeling everywhere, rust showing up more and more, oil cooler leak for the 4th time, 4wd not working, front diff leaking oil, electrical gremlins on gauges, wiring connectors crumble in your hand when messing with them, drivers door latch had issues, sometimes opened, sometimes didnt, sometimes closed, sometimes didnt, but the last heavy straw was when the AC went out , in July. If it had gone out in December, wellllll it might be a different story. But she caught me on the wrong day and it was just too much all at once. So i said screw it. LOL

I did get an extended warranty, what improvements can be had from a delete kit?

If one lives in the right areas they can get a permanent cure to the regen issue….

If it’s not changed, do it before you are limping along wishing you had.

Regen process is similar in that you may smell it. But this is a little more critical in these truck, imho. I use an Idash to monitor the vitals and the regen process

the 1068 is the avg distance between them for me and the word off is the regen notification pid.
