Exhaust leak on top of EGR

I noticed a loud airflow sound and engine noise under load, but no discernable power loss. Maybe a mileage decrease but I'm pulling a 37-foot RV so that's hard to say. When we got to tto our destination I discovered sooting on the EGR as in the pics below. It's a little hard to tell where it's coming but I think there are only a couple potential sources such as the manifold recirc tube, or maybe something with the valve itself. The solenoid is moving the valve OK and I'm hoping I can just tighten something down, but I could use some advice on anything specific to troubleshoot if this is common.

Have you checked the cold side pipe for being split or anything?

To me the picture does not look to be an issue.

Some others think it's a crack in the flexible bellow on that EGR recirc tube based on the sooting pattern. It's an issue (notice the black soot pattern across what should be a relatively shiny EGR) but how much remains to be seen. The tube should be replaced or removed, but at the moment it's not a show stopper.

Most likely this is were you leak is. You should be able to wipe your finger for soot on the back side to confirm this. Either way looks like your EGR input pipe will need to be replaced.

can you spot it leaking with it running? if you do end up removing that pipe, id recommend soaking the bolts with PB blaster while the truck is hot. I did mine for a week and did not have any problems removing them (theyre known to snap off)

I think the guys are on to something with the EGR feed pipe at the exhaust manifold leaking at the flex part there... Just looking at pic of the bottom flex bellow there, it's shiny and clean... Plus the EGR cooler housing is dirty right by it...

I'd think you might be smelling it in the cab also.

Needless to state, perhaps, but not while it's running or immediately thereafter...
