Tire Size...Will it fit...

I have a 2002 F-250 5.4L CCLB 4WD (with front and rear leaf springs) I currently have 265 75R 16 on 16x7 rims. Will 285 75R 16 Tires fit without rubbing the front leaf springs? Trying to find used 265 75R 16 is tough as most tire out there today are 17", 18" or 20". Any thoughts? Asking about 285's because I found 4 used but need some guidance first.

265/75R16s are the stock size and should be readily available or orderable in a short time frame at most stores.

Yes, 285/75/16s will fit without rubbing. However your speedometer will be off about 3-5%. A cheap tuner can correct that usually. Also be aware that sometimes 285 size tires don't have the same load rating as 265's, I had a chain tire store tell me they wouldn't put 285's on my truck at one time. A 'mom and pop' shop did it for me, however.

265 75R 16 are available as new at around $255-$265 for each tire for BF Goodrich AT. Used, they are hard to find. I've found a set of used in the 285 size and rubber is still good. $1,000 for a set of 4 is pricey for me and don't mind used tires. I'm not vain. Thanks for the info, though..

My 99 V10 4x4 CC has 285's. Im looking forward to the day their shot so I can go back to stock sized tires. Unfortunately by then Im sure the trans will be spent from its constant shifting in and out of OD which I blame the bigger tires on somewhat, hill country we live in and lack of its power. But hey...its looks cool.

Look at the General Grabber ATx's. Almost identical tread pattern to the BFG AT-TA/KO's, I found them to have better wear characteristics, and at least around me lower price as well.

Used tires are hard to come by in any form anymore unless they're stock take-offs, in which case you're going to have a hard time finding the sizes you're looking for. Most people run their tires til they're nearly bald before replacing them.

Having just gone up to 315's on my 2000 Ex w/5.4... you will notice the change to 285's, I went to 4.88's to offset the change, they will fit but be prepared for the change in perceived power.

Agreed, 285s will fit. I had the opposite problem with my speedometer, though. Mine was off 3-5% with the stock tires. Putting the 285s on dialed it in to the correct speed. OP, if you are concerned about the speedometer change, measure it with the stock tires and see if your is already off. You might get lucky like I did. If not, and the new tires throw it off, then a tuner can fix that as mentioned. You *might* get a dealer to change it too, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

Yeah dealers either don't like to or won't properly adjust the speedo, not sure why. However, you might have better luck going to an independent shop, they tend to be more agreeable to altering simple things like that.
