I have a spark plug that is frozen into a thread insert in my V10. The plug and the coil both spin in the head making it difficult if not impossible to remove. Is there any possible way to remove this without removing the head from the engine?
Gee sounds tough. You may have to try to push down while turning the plug to get the insert to lock...other than that I don't see any way to remove it.
You may have to pull the head. The insert prob won't come out even if you have the plug in hand.
Thanks I'll give it a try. The insert has definitely spun in the head so no threads left there.
Assuming it's the run of the mill spark plug spitter repair insert, the threads may not be damaged. Just unthread it, let it come out, and see what the head looks like
The problem is the insert is frozen onto the spark plug and the whole thing turns in the head. It appears the threads in the head are wiped and the plug wont turn out of the insert. No idea what repair was used as I can't get it out.

That's very strange, that the insert won't come out if it's spinning. Is it possible to post a pic?
The only thing I could think to try, would be to use a 1/4 inch impact to try to break the plug loose by utilizing whatever friction + inertia resistance the insert still has to offer. This would be done by putting the impact on the highest setting and squeezing the trigger rapidly for short, instant bursts in reverse
That is an interesting suggestion. I'll give it a try. My mechanic has tried a couple of ways to get it out but there appears to be a bit of thread or lip at the top of the hole that keeps the plug and insert from pulling out. Its possible it may eventually blow itself out but in the meantime I have a miss.
