I was moving the trailer today and had a surging issue. the truck RPMs erratically started surging at idle. If I applied power to the throttle in an attempt to move the trailer (30 ft gooseneck horse trailer) the truck died. It started right up, but sill surged for a couple minutes then went back to normal. any suggestions?
The batteries were low and the truck had to be jump started, could low voltage be an issue? the batteries are 5 years old so they are getting replaced today.
I would start by checking the oil level. Low oil will not let the injectors fire. After warning up a bit the level will be a bit higher. That’s my logic anyhow.
I'd /go over all your battery connections, alternator charge cable, and every ground lug you can find with a brush and contact cleaner. The electrical kind not the optometry kind. Could have been a low voltage combined with loose or dirty connection.
