Screwed my t18 up somehow. 4th gear issue.
Over the winter I had it out and pulled the shift cover off to replace a leaky shifter cover gasket and all other related gaskets. I put the cover back on and now I have a issue where I can get every gear but I cannot shift into 4th. It kinda seems like it almost doesn't go all the way in with a smooth snick into gear like the rest of the gears. As soon as I let off the clutch it will pop out and do a grind and pop out and not let me stay in fourth.
The trans was rebuilt years ago but only has 3k maybe on the rebuild. All synchros look great. It was running and driving before I pulled it for a clean and gasket set. Nothing was changed in the trans except for the top cover gasket. All the shift fork plastic pads are accounted for and in good shape. I am getting full throw with the pedal and the clutch fork is going back to maximum travel.
I can rotate the entire assembly easily when engaged by hand in any forward gear with the top cover off by hand with someone pressing the clutch pedal so it isn't clutch related. All the clutch components are new. . I can also physically grab each synchro assembly with the top cover off and go into all forward gears. Just cannot get it into 4th gear with the shifter cover on,
With the shifter cover off and shift lever installed it will shift all the forks with no issues while sitting on a bucket. None of the shift forks were messed with and they are not bent.
I literally drove on the hwy to the shop and 4th gear had no issues. But something I did with that shifter cover has something jacked up. Im not sure if something is awry with how I put the shift cover back in or what.. Putting it into 4th with the engine off doesn't help because as soon as I start it and try to move forward while in 4th it'll feel like it doesn't fully go in 4th using the shifter and pops out with a grind, but with the cover off I can slip it into 4th with no issues at all.
Any ideas with this?
