88 F350 460 EFI Stalling out after sitting for years.
I've had this 88 F350 dually 460 EFI C6 / Gear Vendors, extended cab for about 20 years now. I replace the engine, had the trans rebuilt, new cooling system, IAC valve, starter... then let it sit for about 10~12 years.
Bringing it back to life... It's a bit tough to start, can take 30~50 seconds of cranking before she fires up. Usually once she fires up, she'll run fine. I went for a 16 mile round trip after adding 7 gallons of fresh gas (had about 6~8 gallons of fresh gas within the last 5 months). She stalled out at about 7 miles into this trip.
What happened is that if I "tickle" the throttle, I can keep it running, but it has to be just right. Then after 30 to 50 seconds of this, it'll be right back to normal.
I can't remember if I did the fuel filter, but I think I did. I never cleaned the injectors, but did replace the FPR.
Does this sound like clogged injectors?
I know bad gas can be a pain, but I've added about 16 gallons to whatever was there (not much at all).
Does the "pull the injectors and run cleaner thru them while switching the injector on/off" work pretty well? What about some kinda cleaner or soaking them?
What's the voltage the injectors want? 5V~9V~12V?
other than fuel filter and injectors, is there anything else that would cause this?
i started having stalling issues also at low idle speed... 1997 f350 460 motor single cab 4x4 ... it sits alot in the garage the last few years protected from the elements... added Stabil fuel for long term storage... has a ton of miles ...357,000... thought about replacing the idle air control valve (IAC) due to carbon buildup... going to run ATS Chemical 505 CRF Fuel Cleaner... my injectors are all original... she still starts on the first crank surprisingly...
