Im looking around for a front dana 60 from a 99-04 pickup and they arent as easy to find as the 05+
Im wondering what the difference is between the drw and srw front dana 60s? there are a few around and im thinking they have less wear and tear as i would think drw trucks spend less time in 4wd.
i have read that the drw kingpin axles are the same but use a different hub. I am wondering what the differences are on the 99-04 axles which use balljoints and unit bearings
I need to find the axle for a 4x4 conversion on a van.
Length wise I believe they are the same. You may need to change the unit bearing as the DRW studs may be shorter for just mounting the rotor and wheel adapter, just a guess, but the bolt pattern there is the same. Brakes are the same

thanks for the info. so the drw 4x4 just use a spacer between the unit bearing and rim?
50 was 98-02 then it was gone, there was overlap so earlier than 02 is possible. Found this for you https://www.blueovaltrucks.com/tech-...50-vs-dana-60/ I believe the 229 vs 248 is found on the pass side of the cast support area, and its upside down if you were under the truck looking for it. The snout is a pretty good giveaway too.

I think it should be possible to just replace the shorter DRW studs with longer ones.
looking at pictures on rockauto the studs can absolutely be pressed out without interfering with the unit bearing, although the axle housing could be in the way, Im not sure.
it looks like I will end up with a DRW axle, cant find anything else.
