2017 6.7 CP4 Fuel Contamination / Replacement Kit

Afternoon all! Long time member, but first time poster here.... hoping for some recommendations!

Fuel contamination caused my CP4 to take a long walk off a short pier in Oct of last year. Ins company blames Ford design, Ford blames Fuel and Ins for testing fuel improperly, around the merry go round we go. It's been 4 months, I'm done.....

I'll be replacing the Fuel system within the next month, and looking for your recommendations on the brand / type of kit to get? There are so many options/brands it's overwhelming. Who do you recommend and why? I do intend to install the S&S Disaster Prevention kit as well. Thanks so much, and I appreciate all the help I've gotten off of these forums since 2011!

did you check with your insurance...if ford blames fuel...get them to put that in writing...then give fords written conclusion to your insurance to get coverage under comprehensive part of your [policy.

Might want to consider the S&S DCR conversion instead of another CP4 and DPK. You'll still need parts that would otherwise come in a contamination kit (everything but the CP4 pump).

I see some places sell contamination kits with the DCR pump, like this - https://usdieselparts.com/fuel-conta...kit2017-bosch/

x3 on the DCR. Theres no guarantee the DPK will save your fuel system in the event of another failure.

Thank you all for the replies!

Regarding insurance, I have coverage. They sent a "fuel specialist" out to take a sample and sent it to a lab for testing. Only problem is the truck sat for 3 weeks before he took the sample from the TOP of the fuel tank. Every bit of contamination had settled and dropped by that point.. Ford pointed that out but the guy flashed his ASE certification credentials.... as if Ford's Master Diesel Tech didn't matter. Ford wrote a lengthy letter for me as well, and I've filed with the Insurance Commissioner, and my attorney is waiting for the response. Liberty Mutual.

The DCR.... how difficult is it to switch everything over from CP4 to DCR? I am fairly mechanically inclined, but dont have any special tools if any are needed?

Side note, im attaching the sample that Ford took of my fuel for everyone's reference. This was from 1 fill up at a major trafficked gas station in my town. (I keep my receipts). Thanks all for the insight!

If you are having to tear apart the fuel system, I will echo the recommendation that you just go the DCR route. The pump has more in common with the CP3 than CP4 and the marginal costs aren't huge all things considered. Sorry about your misfortune and subsequent headache.

Thanks everyone! I've made the choice to go the DCR route, which means I don't also need a disaster kit. So I'm happy there. And S&S's videos on the subject make it seem very straightforward and a "simple" conversion.

I'll still need a fuel contamination kit, minus the CP4. Is there a recommended company to source from? Reman injectors or new in your experience? I've cleaned the tank and the sock in tank doesn't look terrible, so I'll flush the lines and clean x 4 everything to be sure.

Smart move...

The problem is that the 6.7 "contamination" kits that are pieced together come with a remanufactured CP4, with a core deposit, and remanned injectors. Unless you piece it together yourself on a website like villagefordparts.com or similar... Or buy new injectors from S&S, from one of their dealers like Thoroughbred Diesel, when you buy the DCR. And maybe you can ask them or another dealer about what you're doing and they can work with you for a better deal.

This kit, posted above, included the DCR but remam injectors.

Similar kit with no name injectors.

Nothing wrong with reman injectors. Cars and trucks have been using reman parts since the first cars hit the dirt. As long as there is a warranty on them, good to go.
