I've been working on the brakes on my 96 E350 Conversion van and I came across a hose I can't identify. There is a metal distribution fitting on the rear axle where the line comes in from the Master Cylinder, then two lines come out of it and go to the rear brake drums. There is another hose coming off the fitting that is cracking and falling apart with a big hole in it, but it's dry and there is no brake fluid coming out of it.
Can anyone please tell me what this extra hose is for or where it goes?
Thank You
PS Sorry I just realize I posted to the wrong forum and there is no way to delete a post.
I've never even heard of that before. Can't imagine why it would need a vent and where it vents to?
Bit vents to the atmosphere to release pressure and avoid blowing out axle seals. You'll definitely want to make sure that the fitting is free-flowing without any debris inside of it and put a new tube on it.
OK I think I get it. That metal distribution block/fitting serves two purposes. One is a brake line in and two out for the rear brakes, then it also has a hole in the back that opens into the axle that goes through a separate passage in the fitting to a hose to nowhere, and has noting to do with the brakes.
