This old truck...makes me crazy. Always something.
I put a rebuilt FORD trans in 2011 years ago...new from Ford. I dont drive the truck much...probably only has 40k miles on the trans. Thats part of the problem.
Its leaking I noticed today after a few long trips. Is it more than likely just the oil pan gasket?
I did the swap myself and if I recall it send trans fluid to the trans cooler but no red engine coolant runs through the trans so this couldn't red coolant, correct?
I went to change the O-ring for two "halves" of the dipstick tube and the short elbow that goes into the transmission body pulled out and and I got THE geyser of transmission fluid. My god man. I must have lost 3 quarts. (truck parked on slight decline)
The O-ring I bought from Diesel O-rings (https://dieselorings.com/products/19...ck-tube-o-ring) is only for the two halves of the tube, and he claims that no o-ring seals the short elbow that goes into the trans body? I find this hard to believe. How does it seal at the transmission?
I found an exploded view of the trans. It shows an o-ring between the two tubes, but none where the tube enters the transmission.
Thanks so much! I'll raise the front end so the fluid moves backwards and pull the tube, clean and put back on and put on the new o ring at the halves of the tube.
When the truck is parked on even a sight decline the fluid moves far up into the dipstick tube. It's no wonder that o ring is so important.
Its sexy time guys...some old and slightly dry JBWeld Steelstick and JBWeld regular runny 2 part (yes this stuff does have a shelf life...and miine was pretty dry) and a new o-ring.
Go get your popcorn...
And the short eblow
Used some JBWeld around the dipstick tube to elbow connection as well but I dont think its gonna stay on as it wasnt stickling very well even though I cleaned and sanded all the surfaces.
