Looking to purchase a new truck to replace my 2006. Interested in an XL model with the 6.8L engine and new transmission. Anyone actually behind the wheel of this new powertrain yet?
I know I missed the boat on the last year of the 6.2L engine and have been looking at used 6.2L with no luck for over a year now. Thinking new is a better option seeing as used prices are almost the same as new prices.
im sure the market is still completely 100% stupid and has been for some time. like the real estate. houses that couldnt of sold for 150k three years ago are now being priced at 375k.

Id say bite the bullet and buy a 2020-2022 6.2L even if its close in price to a new 2024. Could probably find a great condition lightly used XL F250 6.2L that wasn't used for anything heavy and returned from lease. Very little talk on here about the new 6.8L except for a few issues reported by a few users.
6.8 engine has been very quiet with hands on reports in the wild still.
7.3 seems to be taking the wind from the 6.8 still. With the price of trucks now maybe the 6.8 will start getting an uptick in sales with folks trying to save some money. The 6.8 power certainly isn't far behind the 7.3.
Thanks for the replies. The internet does seem pretty dead with 6.8L XL reviews.
I did order a 2024 6.8L ($51k) and also purchased a 2022 6.2L with 5,281mi for almost the same price . Definitely keeping the 06 around the 2024 has 10k plus miles just incase its a lemon.
Did you buy that 2022 6.2L off a lot in Bartow, FL.? I just bought a 2023 F250, and while I was searching, I saw a truck like that with the same miles for sale,…it was a XL model,….just wondering.

I recently waited too long on a '22 6.2 STX with 3100miles, a few days after the dealer advertised it, it sold($50k). That is a nice find! I am hoping this new 10r100 / 6.8 combo proves itself and I will eventually order one.
My observations are based off driving the same 2002 Chevy 1500HD with 4.56 gears for 21 years.
I have 3600 miles on the 23 XL 6.8L. 1200 miles poulling 9000# fifth wheel camper. Few initial rambling bullets from what I can say so far on the motor and tranny.
*It is a quiet motor. After 21 years of piston slapping rattle GM LS this motor is surprisingly quiet. Good low end torque, smooth up to 4000 rpm which is all I have spun it so far.
**There seems like a ton of work on heat control. There is heat foil and shields everywhere.
*9 mpg according to computer running 68 mph. I run HiTest.
*Tranny seems nice and works well with 4.30s. Shifting seems good to me, both up and down shifts work well. I will only use tow mode and normal.
*There is no dipstick in the tranny, the pan is plastic.
*I've seen comments it is a f150 tranny, I do not buy that. It is a big monster and will be fine with the 6.8 stock.
*Tranny temps are higher than a 4l60E GM. Hard to adjust my brain to.
*Creature comforts for me are perfect with the XL. I could do without the sync stuff. I detest the 5G modem and all the RF stuff.
*Cooling system seems adequate.
From a life long BowTie freak and Ford basher, I like my 6.8L and small 10 speed tranny.
So far so good with our 6.8 STX 3.73 gears at 5k miles. Have pulled 5k lbs from 1k up to 7K elevation several times. Transmission is smooth, motor is strong but definitely not a diesel replacement. Just have to realize you go 60-65mph instead of 80 up the steepest grades so you're not revving the engine to the moon. I really like how strong the truck feels unloaded. It's faster than my '14 F150 5.0L by quite a bit. Ours has the "payload package" so it's really damn stiff and terrible on a washboard road but I really like having a 4k lb payload for trips to the dunes and camping trips where the bed and cab are loaded down and we're pulling a trailer. Fuel economy doesn't appear to be much better than the 7.3L. Unloaded on a flat freeway at 70-75 it's getting ~16mpg. Towing 5k I am getting 10-11 either flat or a round trip up and down the mountains.
