I have driven quite a distance to try and locate a lower intake but they have all turned up cracked or broken just like mine. How important is that ear that breaks off? (closest to the firewall). Will I have a horrible intake leak leading to lean running issues? I'd be willing to drop 3-400 bucks on a manifold with a better design but I seems like they do not exist.
I hate to have my first post on something so commonly discussed but I have not found the answer to my question in any of the threads about the intake.
I have welded on a few and even fabrcated an ear from plate if there was no piece available. I would not recommend running without any of the tabs.
It helps to use studs and/or retainer tabs to install without breakage.
It sounds like you're EFI, so no, there aren't any aftermarket intakes unless you're wanting to go to a carburetor.
I had a few tabs break on an older aftermarket carburetor Offenhauser intake, and a machine shop was able to just weld it all back up. It usually wasn't all that expensive.
As FTF mentioned, you can always just weld on a block of aluminum and make your own tab.
Got it welded and put back on, I'm desperately trying to save this truck from the junkyard but now its giving me a high idle and i'm losing hope. I made a post in the 87-96 F150 section.
