I just bought a standard cab base model powerstroke. I bought it really cheap with all of its problems. Working through fixing some of those. I have the following codes.
c0040-72-48
P0504-c
P0504:00-ac
I did try a new brake sensor. Someone has definitely been in here trying to figure this out. Forscan shows brake sensor b001 off no matter what position the pedal is in. B002 switches off and on correctly.
Other notes. No tail lights. No brake lights. Doesn't up shift on its own when code is present. Hazards and turn signals work. Headlights work.
So.. the dealer that was previously working on this had jumpers through the harness. Really poorly done and didn't solve anything. I ripped all of that out last night with no change to any of the issues. Today on break I started checking wires with my multimeter. The first one I checked was the black wire from the bcm to the brake switch. .1 ohms... great. Then i checked the gray and red wire to and from the same pieces of equipment. 3.5 megaohm.
So I made a jumper from the brake switch to the pcm and it fixed all of the problems. Traction control, stability control, lighting, abs lights, non shifting transmission, etc.
Now I need to source the right gauge wire (18 maybe?) in gray and red and make the actual repair. This wire runs under the seats from one side to the other.
