Im in the process of replacing the 3rd front left unit bearing on my late 99 250 4wd with 145K. The current one is a Precision brand (Napa?) replaced by the PO. Can barely turn it and its creaking when you do try to turn it. Cant say Ive ever been a fan of Precision products after some U joint replacements. I hope the Motorcraft one I ordered is the way to go even though Rockauto lists MC units as "economy" replacements. Please advise me on my brand choice. I'll shelf the MC unit if needed and order a ??? brand.
When I bought the truck it came with them for some reason along with new OEM discs. I guess the previous owner had planned to replace them for some reason. I failed to mention they are brand new.
Ok it's Service Design (may also be referred to as "High Level Service Design") vs OE Design
The former is outsourced to be cheaper. Basically AutoZone parts at the dealer. Some of it is to be price competitive, some of it is arguably the theory that an old vehicle doesn't need a part that will last another 200k if the vehicle is going to fall apart in 80k
Oh Lordy...if the MC I have coming is comparable to a AZ valuecrap I better order a case of them. At least I didnt pay $305 for it like Oreileys charges. Gotta pay them "expert" parts folks ya know. I did stumble on the posts that are in the link below. HUB4 vs NHUB32. Looking on Fords websites it says for HUB4 Usage: Front, Quantity per Vehicle:2, 1999 - 2002, F-250 Super Duty, 4WD, 4-Wheel ABS, Coarse Thread Wheel Studs, Includes ABS Sensor, OE Design.
The NHUB32 says Usage: Front, Quantity per Vehicle:2, 1999 - 2002, F-250 Super Duty, 4WD, 4-Wheel ABS, "High Level Service Design", Single Wheel, w/ Bearings and Races.

I'd do the HUB4. According to the thread above it was the OEM.
On these older trucks I'm wondering if Ford is giving up on true OEM anyway, and maybe just offering decent aftermarket and not-so-great aftermarket. Only a thought, though...no evidence for that theory.
